Likely mistakes by employers during job interviews

Interview as a form of selection tool is often said to be unreliable due to likely and common mistakes being made by interviewers. These mistakes affect outcomes of job interviews leading to selection errors. Some of the mistakes are as follows;

* Using single prominent characteristics of a person to determine his/her suitability for the job. Examples; speech and appearance.

* Use of leading questions or wrong framing of questions. Interviewers should avoid using leading questions. Very little information is obtained from YES or NO questions.

* Use of predetermined notion about a particular set of people to assess interviewees. Examples; Race, culture, tribes, colour and religion.

* Using the performance of one job applicant to judge another job applicant.

* Use of facial expression of an interviewee to judge him or her.
